How to apply

You can either apply for a Traditional internship or a Pop-up internship. Traditional internships typically begin around May or June of the following year, although they can start as late as December. These internships are tailored to your skills, interests, preferred countries, and so on. Occasionally other offers become available based on employer demand – these are called Pop Up internships. While these and are entirely unpredictable. See below for instructions for both pathways.

While it is not impossible to find an internship which runs over the Aussie summer break, it is less common. Generally, when you apply for a Traditional internship, you should expect to defer at least one semester of your studies in order to complete the internship (usually the second semester of the year). If our past interns’ experiences are anything to go by, one deferred semester is well worth the life-changing professional and cultural experience!

If you already have an internship secured at a company overseas and would like to use IAESTE to organise visas, then you can do your internship through us as a Reserved Offer. The exact process and paperwork varies from country to country, so contact outgoing@iaeste.org.au for further details related to your situation.
